December 30, 2011 – At 08:26 the SHFD was dispatched to the area of 1900 Long Run Road for a motor vehicle accident with possible ejection. Chief 720 arrived on scene and found two vehicles head-on with two patients severely injured. EMS assisted the patients while fire personnel secured the vehicles and fluids. Due to the extent of injuries, EMS then requested an aeromedical for 1 patient.
At 08:44, E-737 was redirected from the accident scene to 9A Earl Stoyer Drive, (the Grace Evangelical Church) to setup a landing zone for incoming Geisinger Life Flight 5. Crews used flares to establish a landing zone and assisted the Flight Crew with patient transport to the “bird”. Chief 735 (Motko) had command of the LZ, and Chief 720 (Peel) was in command of the accident.
