September 5, 2009- At 21:15 the Schuylkill Haven Water Rescue team was requested to respond to Route 54, Mount Carmel Twp, Northumberland County for a possible water rescue/recovery in a stripping pit just off of Route 54. Schuylkill Haven deployed 7 divers, numerous tendors and 4 rescue boats to the scene. Whenthe team arrived, they received a “size-up” of the situation from dive teams and other personnel on scene. It was said that a certain individual had seen a bumper of a car sticking out of the pit, and supposedly also seen up to 2 people still inside the vehicle. Other dive teams that were on location before the SHFD, had already been in the water and couldn’t find what the person was describing. Crews remained on scene for nearly 3 hours doing searches, but do to very low visibility, it was decided to have everyone return home and that the search will resume the next day at 09:00. More of the story to be added, once information is received!!
