Fire District 63

October 7, 2008- Working Fire on Garfield Ave.

October 7,2008- Right around 23:30 Stations 1 & 2 were dispatched to the area of North Garfield Ave and Centre Ave for an unknown type fire.  As Chief 720, Engine 732, and Ladder 725 went en route, County Comm Center advised of a heavy smoke condition in the area.  As the incoming units arrived at the scene, command decided to split the rigs up in attempt to find the source.  Chief 722 (Sattizahn) and Engine 732 proceeded to go up N. Garfield Ave when they came across heavy smoke and visible fire from 773 North Garfiled Ave.

That message was immediately relayed to Incident Command, who asked County to fulfill his first alarm assignment, bringing in Station 4, for a working house fire to the rear of the above address.  Engine 732 was on scene and attacked the bulk of the fire using pre-connects while Ladder 725 and their crew was assigned to do a search as well as ventilation.  Station 4 arrived and assisted the other 2 companies already on scene with fire supression.  Do to the amount of fireload in the building, Duty Chief 720 (Peel) also had Pottsville City R.I.T. dispatched to the scene, as well as having Pine Grove HH&L move up into the Schuylkill Hose station, and Cressona #1 moved into Liberty Fire Co.  Giving the overall conditions of the fire building, crews made "a heck of a stop" on the fire itself, and all Schuylkill Haven units cleared the scene in just over 3 hours. *MLK Photos*
