September 7-8, 2011 – Heavy Rain Causes Multiple Calls For SHFD

September 7-8, 2011 – Heavy Rain from a strong tropical storm system pounded the eastern part of the state and dropped just under 10 inches of rain throughout Schuylkill, Berks, and Lehigh Counties. The SHFD ran multiple assistance calls in the borough; pumping basements, assisting SHPD with voluntary evacuations and residential rescues. Members from all companies in the borough remained on stand-by throughout the night and morning hours of September 8th. Station 4 ran approximately 11 calls and assisted a resident whose entire house was surrounded by water. Station 2 was dispatched to the borough of Pine Grove with multiple water rescues and evacuations. All 3 SHFD Dive Team inflatable boats were placed into service for longer than 24 hours.
