October 29, 2011 – Early Winter Storm Drops 5″ Of Wet Snow

On October 29, 2011 an early season winter storm dropped over 5″ inches of heavy snow, knocking down trees and power lines throughout the area. The SHFD ran numerous calls throughout the day due to the weather and also responded to a possible structure fire at Seton Manor (Orwigsburg) and a MVA w/Entrapment at the Intersection of Route 61 & Dock Street all within minutes of each other. The rundown of calls is below;

 

  • 12:21 – Station 4 dispatched to Berne Drive for a tree down blocking the roadway.
  • 13:40 – Stations 1 & 2 to Garfield Avenue for a tree down on a residence.
  • 14:00 – Station 2 was dispatched to 129 Avenue B for a tree down through a window. Crews cut and removed the tree.
  • 15:59 – Stations 2 & 4 were dispatched to Berne Drive for multiple trees down blocking the roadway and on wires.
  • 16:08 – Stations 1 & 2 dispatched to Route 61 and Dock Streets, for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Crews arrived on scene and found a vehicle on the sidewalk with 1 patient. Crews removed the patient from the vehicle, and assisted EMS with CPR.
  • 16:15 – Ladder 725 and E-737 (E-737 was held to due a previous call) were dispatched to 1000 Seton Drive, Orwigsburg for a Nursing Home fire – with evacuations in progress.
